Mo' Maya, Mo' Problems.

So I made some hands? While doing so, I learned about animation deformers, which would have helped me a ton had I known about them earlier. Basically you can bend and twist and deform anything just with the use of one handle. So much rigging I would have been able to skip. Learned some stuff about assembling pieces of geometry together, which is extremely helpful because I have been building really messy models up until this point. GOOD STUFF. Tried to rig something again, but of course it's all weighted wrong, and I haven't asked about how to properly paint skins yet.

LOOK AT THIS CREEPY SHIT! BTW I finally understand how skins for games work now. We did face modeling today, man that is some tedious stuff. Used celebrity mugshots for reference haha, I picked David Bowie? Then I went and slapped his face back on my model just to see what it would look like. CREEPY AS HELL APPARENTLY. Or like a Sims1 skin mod. Same thing. Picked up a couple modeling tricks, as well as how to properly keep meshes clean and grid-like... which I failed to do because it's effing hard as hell to build a clean model.

Oh Maya, you're such a guilty pleasure sometimes.

1337 Fashion Designer

Ok well not 1337 exactly, but I'm ONE RANK OFF! Actually, this is a terrible rank in terms of the game, but as a geek, it would be an automatic win if I were ranked 1337. Unfortunately, after I refreshed this, I dropped down to 1344.

If you're wondering why I'm playing a fashion game when I'm usually found playing less... friendly... games, it's because this is the project I'm working on for work. Can't say I'm the best candidate for clothing design, and I've gone through hell and back trying to find the discipline within me to dig into this project, but it's turning out pretty good.

I've been working on these projects at work that are in this no-outline, block shading style... basically drawing in Flash without actually drawing. Just rectangles and ovals shaped by their corners and edges. Threw this together just now, been wanting to put this style to use outside of work.

But damn, I haven't had time for much of anything these days.

21 in 4 days. Really looking forward to next Friday, though.

Here is that project I started in Maya... which is proving much more troublesome than I could have ever imagined. The first video is the preview render of the whole story. The animation probably isn't final, just wanted to block in the story for the sake of my teacher's sanity. But I mean, the way my files are looking right now, it probably won't change much from this preview, since I'm afraid to edit too much and mess up all the files... again. The HQ button doesn't seem to work on this video, dunno.

This second video is a render of the first scene, meaning it has smoothed edges, textures, and lights and shadows. So eventually this is what the whole thing will look like. Still no sound on any of these, that's a whole 'nother ordeal I haven't gotten around to quite yet. This one looks good in high quality, so uh, hit that HQ button.

I helped a bit with this app for the iPhone, called NinjaJumper, made by this guy named Lajos. It's a fun little game, and I'm not just saying that because I worked on it. Basically you jump across the platforms, collecting flowers and lanterns, which multiply your score. Simple, yet oddly addicting.
